Kemah, TX
This was the very first time for myself to see the Gulf Coast of Texas!
The Kemah Boardwalk
Homes on sticks!

The evening comes to a close! BEAUTIFUL!
Only Matthew
The trip to Houston was filled with loads of drama. Yeah, D-R-A-M-A! You see this is how it began.......
We leave the house at 9am to drop Daisy off at the boarding facility. Poor Daisy. She was soooo scared. Literally shaking. I fill out the paperwork, unhook her collar, kiss her good-bye and left.
We drive to the nearest gas station to the school we are all to meet at. Bobby fills up the tank, I buy Matthew a bag of chips and all of us a soda for the trip.
We arrive at the elementary school around 9:45am (we were to be there at 10am). Matthew gets out to play with his friends while we wait for the whole group to arrive. It wasn't until almost 10:30am that we finally leave. Matthew's friend, Nathan, asks if Matthew can ride with them. Sure. I didn't care. Bad mistake!
We were maybe a half hour out of Bryan-College Station (home of Texas A&M University), the leader of the caravan (the pack leader) pulls over. Now he has everyone's cell number and we have his. The assistant leader kept the rear. So we all pull over. We didn't know what was going on. Until...........................
Nathan's dad gets out of his van. The pack leader walks directly to him. Next thing you know they are walking to our van. Uh-oh! I get out (wondering what was going on). Nathan's dad is smiling. It can't be that bad. Famous last words. He comes to me, smiling, and tells me there was an accident in his van. Matthew got car sick. We get to Matthew and he is covered in red soda and orange Doritos (the soda and chips I bought him for the trip). His uniform was ruined. The front seat (projectile) was covered. The seat he was in was covered. The floor was covered. This was NOT our van but Nathan's. I-chihuahua!! We used all of Lauren's wipes to clean up. Matthew had to put on his tomorrow clothes. The rest of the way....he rode with us. I was mortified. Embarrased. If I had a shovel, I would have dug myself a hole to China.
Nathan's dad was okay with all of this. He was laughing actually. We promised to pay the cleaning bill or we would clean it ourselves. Thankfully, he was a dad that had been there, done that.
The rest of the trip was uneventful. But I think from now on......Matthew will carry a barf bag around his neck on long trips!

I mean.....I
Matthew (I mean I!) won 3rd place in the cake decorating contest at the Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet yesterday. We made (I mean I!) made a volcano cake with moist dark, chocolate cake with milk chocolate icing. The "volcano" was stuffed with red hots (volcano has to be hot, ya know) with red (icing) lava oozing out the top and sides. Then I took mashed chocolatey-middle Oreos and sprinkled them on the sides and the base of the mountain to give it that bouldery "au natural" look.My cake (I mean our cake) was called "Aloh-hot!"

HERO
Another reason why German Shepherd Dogs rock!!
THOMASVILLE, Ga. Feb 2, 2007 (AP)— A south Georgia woman bloodied in a car wreck says she owes her life to a German shepherd who thankfully just wouldn't stay in his yard.
Shannon Lorio says that after her car careened down an embankment, the wayward dog found her bruised and battered on the vehicle's trunk, pulled her by her shirt collar, dragged her about 50 yards through briars to a highway and let her lean against him so she could flag a passing motorist.
His new name: Hero.
"That dog is always going to have a special place in my heart," Lorio said Friday. "He's my hero."
Hero's previous owners have signed him over to the Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society since the Jan. 26 accident because he kept wandering off.
He won't be in the shelter long: Not only have at least 50 people offered to adopt him, a dog trainer has agreed to see if he has the right stuff for search and rescue work.
Lorio's car tumbled backward down an embankment in a remote, heavily wooded area. She said she lost control on a curve and was thrown onto the trunk.
"I was bleeding from my face and my nose," she said. "All of a sudden, I felt a presence a really huge presence. He was straddling me. I have watched too many horror movies about werewolves and vampires. I thought he was going to eat me."
Instead, the dog licked her face, she said.
The 2-year-old dog, weighing 70 pounds, dragged the 136-pound Lorio to the highway, then stood by to help her summon help before she collapsed, she said.
Lorio, 36, of Pavo, said she can't adopt Hero because she already has six dogs, but she's showered him with gifts including a huge bone and a stuffed animal.
"If he ever needs anything, I'll be there," she said.
Dog trainer Heidy Drawdy, of Thomasville, will take Hero next week to see if he's cut out to be a search and rescue dog.
First item on the agenda for the wandering canine: obedience training.

Bangs
Oh, this is not really funny but then it was.
Last night, while Lauren was taking a bath, I decided she need a trim around her face. When I grabbed some scissors, I told the boys that I was going to cut their sister's bangs while she was in the bathtub. Her hair is getting scraggly and at that stage where it's long but still too short to put in a pony tail. And I thought it would be easier while in the tub because we could rinse the trimming off and no sweeping. Anyway, next thing ya know, I have both of the boys almost in tears and frantic with me in the bathroom. I didn't understand what was wrong. Eric kept asking me "WHY??!!!" I'd answer, "Because she needs them cut." You could really see fear in their eyes. I asked them what their problem was. I couldn't under stand what was wrong.
Well....they came running into the bathroom because they thought I was going to cut their sister's...............VEINS! They thought I was going to kill their sister. They came to plead the life of their sister.
Oh the poor boys. LOL!

Mario Cuomo
THANK YOU!
Yesterday on GMA, they showed he and his cameraman being attacked while sitting in an armored humvee with the 1st Cav. Division's military police. He and his cameraman are all right. Thank God! I mention him because as I watched in awe with what happened, I sat here on my couch all most in tears. These guys (soldiers) weren't afraid. Yes, a bit of cursing when they came upon an IED but other than that they went about the rest of their time securing the perimeter, making sure all was all right, and making me feel damn proud of them. DAMN PROUD!
Heroes, that is what they are. I couldn't be more prouder than I already am. But I am. I see them in a new and different light. It somehow made me more prouder to be an American. And it made me more prouder to be an Army wife.
I am proud of my husband.

My View
I consider myself a democrat. I'm not registered so I guess what I say doesn't really count. But yet, here, I can say what I want.
Tonight the Prez will speak about sending 20,000 more troops to Iraq. I don't like it because that means our guys will suffer immensely. They are overloaded. They are tired. They have no relief. The 20,000 being sent aren't to replace, ease, or relief the already thousands over there. BUT, the already said men will be safer? That I can't answer. And my husband's chances become greater and more likely to go "over there" more often than before. We don't have enough National Guard and/or new recruits. And some might say that the new recruits are too new. They aren't war hardened and are trigger happy. Not safe.
But you see, this is not why I'm writing. Yes, I worry about our guys but I'm more concerned about the facts that are being criticized, percieved, told and rumored on television. I swear if I hear "I support the troops but not the war." I will PUKE! Our soldiers are our modern day knights. Soldiers are trained for fighting and bettering their job at war. So in that aspect if the guys sat at home training with no wars....the government shuts down bases and post, they stop passing bills for better equipment, no more raises, soldier's family gets sub-standard health care (and it ain't all that now), and the guys have it harder getting promotions because their won't be enough slots open if the military shrinks because of downsizing. All because of no wars!
So in general, if you don't support the war....you don't support the troops. In the end, our guys get the shaft while the government keeps spending money on BS and giving themselves raises.
Don't get me wrong. We shouldn't be "over there". Who the heck wants there son, daughter, wife, husband, and/or grandchildren "over there"? But in the end, wars are sometimes a necessity. We don't like them but we need them. But without them....the US wouldn't be the what they are today. And my husband wouldn't be "all that he could be." But the wars that need be fought, should be those that protect us....not an oil field or a strategic area. But I don't get to choose the war I want to fight, so I have to step back and just accept fate.
I feel like I'm going in circles here.
So, as I was trying to say..........we as a nation have to accept the war that was given to us, support it, so then you can say "I support the troops!"
And, hopefully, our guys can come home......in peace.

Wilbur is married to Templeton!!
The Rat was welcomed in ancient times as a protector and bringer of material prosperity. It is an animal associated with tenacity, fighting spirit, self-preservation, aggression, charm, charisma and yet also associated with death, the occult, torture, crimes, poverty, and disease.
"I have conquered an empire but I have not been able to conquer myself." - Peter the Great, a Rat
"The best political weapon is the weapon of terror. Cruelty commands respect. Men may hate us. But, we don't ask for their love; only for their fear." - Heinrich Himmler, a Rat
"There is nothing impossible to him who will try." - Alexander the Great, a Rat
Years and the Five Elements
Persons born within these date ranges can be said to have been born in the "year of the Rat/Mouse," while also bearing the following elemental sign:
31 January 1900 - 18 February 1901: Metal Rat
18 February 1912 - 5 February 1913: Water Rat
5 February 1924 - 24 January 1925: Wood Rat
24 January 1936 - 10 February 1937: Fire Rat
10 February 1948 - 28 January 1949: Earth Rat
28 January 1960 - 14 February 1961: Metal Rat
15 February 1972 - 2 February 1973: Water Rat
2 February 1984 - 19 February 1985: Wood Rat
19 February 1996 - 7 February 1997: Fire Rat
2008 - 2009: Earth Rat
2020 - 2021: Metal Rat
Attributes
Being the first sign of the Chinese zodiac, rats are leaders, pioneers and conquerors (that's my man!). They are charming, passionate, charismatic, practical and hardworking(so true). Rat people are endowed with great leadership skills and are perhaps the most organized and systematic of the twelve signs (yep, that's Bobby). Intelligent and cunning at the same time, rats are highly ambitious and strong-willed people who are keen and unapologetic promoters of their own agendas, which often include money and power. They are energetic and versatile and can usually find their way around obstacles, and adapt to various environments easily. A rat's natural charm and sharp demeanor make it an appealing friend for almost anyone, but rats are usually highly exclusive and selective when choosing friends and so often have only a few very close friends whom they trust.
Behind the smiles and charm, rats can be terribly obstinate and controlling, insisting on having things their way no matter what the cost. These people tend to have an immense control of their emotions, which they may use as a tool to manipulate and exploit another person, both emotionally and mentally. Rats are masters of mind games and can be very dangerous, calculating and downright cruel if they want. They can be terrible gossips and selfish busybodies. Rats need to learn to relax sometimes, as they can be quite obsessed with detail and have an anal-retentive personality (definitely Bobby!)
A valuable lesson for Rats is to learn to consider others below themselves, at least sometimes, and to avoid forcing their ideas onto others. Rats are fair in their dealings and do not expect the same from others in return, and can be deeply affronted if they feel they have been deceived or that their trust has been abused. Sometimes they set their targets too high, whether in relation to their friends or in their career. But as the years pass, they will become more idealistic and tolerant. If they can develop their sense of self and realize it leaves room for others in their life as well, Rats can find true happiness.
Traditionally, Rats should avoid Horses, but they can usually find their best friends and love interests in Monkeys, Oxen, and Dragons.

Matthew is a big ox!
Matthew was born in the wrong year! We goofed! He is not one of these things!!
The Ox is one of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar.
Years and the Five Elements
Persons born within these date ranges can be said to have been born in the "year of the Ox," while also bearing the following elemental sign:
19 February 1901 - 7 February 1902: Metal Ox
6 February 1913 - 25 January 1914: Water Ox
25 January 1925 - 12 February 1926: Wood Ox
11 February 1937 - 30 January 1938: Fire Ox
29 January 1949 - 16 February 1950: Earth Ox
15 February 1961 - 4 February 1962: Metal Ox
3 February 1973 - 22 January 1974: Water Ox
20 February 1985 - 8 February 1986: Wood Ox
7 February 1997 - 28 January 1998: Fire Ox
26 January 2009 - 14 February 2010: Earth Ox
2021 - 2022: Metal Ox
2033 - 2034: Water Ox
Attributes
The Ox is the sign of prosperity through fortitude and hard work. This powerful sign is a born leader, being quite dependable and possessing an innate ability to achieve great things. As one might guess, such people are dependable, calm, and modest. Like their animal namesake, the Ox is unswervingly patient, tireless in their work, and capable of enduring any amount of hardship without complaint.
Ox people need peace and quiet to work through their ideas, and when they have set their mind on something it is hard for them to be convinced otherwise. An Ox person has a very logical mind and is extremely systematic in whatever they do, even without imagination. These people speak little but are extremely intelligent. When necessary, they are articulate and eloquent.
The Ox is not extravagant, and the thought of living off credit cards or being in debt makes them nervous. The possibility of taking a serious risk could cause the Ox sleepless nights.
Ox people are truthful and sincere, and the idea of wheeling and dealing in a competitive world is distasteful to them. They are rarely driven by the prospect of financial gain. These people are always welcome because of their honesty and patience. They have many friends, who appreciate the fact that the Ox people are wary of new trends, although every now and then they can be encouraged to try something new.
It is important to remember that the Ox people are sociable and relaxed when they feel secure, but occasionally a dark cloud looms over such people and they engage all the trials of the whole world and seek solutions for them.
The Ox is one of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar.

My Daughter is a male chicken!
The Rooster (sometimes replaced with the Phoenix in some regions of China) is one of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar.
Years and associated five elements
Persons born within these date ranges can be said to have been born in the "year of the Rooster/Chicken," while also bearing the following elemental sign:
22 January 1909 - 9 February 1910: Earth Rooster
8 February 1921 - 27 January 1922: Metal Rooster
26 January 1933 - 13 February 1934: Water Rooster
13 February 1945 - 1 February 1946: Wood Rooster
31 January 1957 - 17 February 1958: Fire Rooster
17 February 1969 - 5 February 1970: Earth Rooster
5 February 1981 - 24 January 1982: Metal Rooster
23 January 1993 - 9 February 1994: Water Rooster
9 February 2005 - 28 January 2006: Wood Rooster
2017 - 2018: Fire Rooster
2029 - 2030: Earth Rooster
Attributes
People born in the year of the Rooster are usually very observant. They are brave, resilient, sexy, and tenacious but can also be quite self-absorbed, pretentious, and overly romantic. Most of the time, they are very accurate and precise with their observation.
These people certainly love to find themselves in the spotlight (yep, Lauren), they love entertaining friends and adore meeting new people, and even unexpected and uncertain circumstances are not a barrier for them.
It is almost impossible to find someone born in this year looking dowdy or untidy. These people are usually the best dressed and groomed of all other people. They are actively interested in clothes, colours, and accessories, and are usually very critical of their own appearance as well as of the appearance of those around them. People born in the year of the Rooster like to be noticed and flattered (yep Lauren again). Such a person might dress a little flashily with this in mind, but in his heart, he/she is completely conservative. Roosters always appear attractive and beautifully turned out. They are sociable and love to receive attention (that's my girl!). Others may criticize them for being exhibitionists but they are compassionate, wise, and have a brave nature which comes to the fore when others need their help, makes up that deficiency.
It is difficult for these people to accept advice because of their strong independent (that is so her) spirit. These people are often confident in their own judgements and choices. There are times when these people may be too straight-forward which can cause some problems in relationships with others. So it would be wise sometimes not to express their opinions in order to keep the peace.
The ideal job for a rooster is a doctor, lawyer.

Year of the Pig
Yeah, I'm a pig literally and figuratively I guess! And my oldest is one too!
In China, the Pig (a more correct form would be the Boar) is associated with fertility and virility. To bear children in the year of the pig is considered very fortunate, for they will be happy and honest.
Years and the Five Elements
Persons born within these date ranges can be said to have been born in the "year of the Pig," while also bearing the following elemental sign:
30 January 1911 - 17 February 1912: Metal Pig
16 February 1923 - 4 February 1924: Water Pig
4 February 1935 - 23 January 1936: Wood Pig
22 January 1947 - 9 February 1948: Fire Pig
8 February 1959 - 27 January 1960: Earth Pig
27 January 1971 - 14 February 1972: Metal Pig
13 February 1983 - 1 February 1984: Water Pig
31 January 1995 - 18 February 1996: Wood Pig
18 February 2007 - 6 February 2008: Fire Pig
5 February 2019 - 24 January 2020: Earth Pig
2031 - 2032: Metal Pig
2043 - 2044: Water Pig
Attributes
The Pig type is usually an honest, straightforward and patient person. He/she is a modest, shy character who prefers to work quietly behind the scenes. When others despair, he/she is often there to offer support. This type of person is reserved with those they do not know too well, but as time passes and they gain confidence, those around them may discover a lively and warm-hearted person behind that mask of aloofness. Despite those born in the year of pig having a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, they have few close friends who understand them and share their inner thoughts and feelings. It is easy to put trust in pig type; he/she won't let you down and will never even attempt to do so. Such people simply want to do everything right according to social norms.
It is important to remember that these people are not vengeful creatures. If someone tries to take advantage of him/her, the pig type tend to withdraw to reflect on the problem and protect themselves. All they need in such situations is a little time to find a constructive way to respond. The people of the pig type are conservative creatures of habit. They dislike being made to travel too far from familiar surroundings, unless it is a trip to the country. They love nature and are never happier than when they are out somewhere, far from the city.
There is a tolerant and peaceful side to their character. Such people are never afraid to allow others their freedom of expression; they do not want to cause arguments and if there is any way to avoid arguing, they will probably take this option. They are not weak, however, and if the situation forces them to fight these people will rise to the occasion, whether it is to defend themselves or those close to them. People of the Pig type are the most admired by others.

A Nintendo romance!
I am a happy Mom. Why is that so? You see, this is how it is, a few days AFTER Christmas day.............
The boys find their new, brand spankin'...I might add, Nintendo DS-lite's on Christmas morn. The squeals of delight, the chatter of best friends who are brothers, the "oooh-and aaaah's", the joy that Christmas brings on that beautiful morning. Yes. All was right with the world that day. THAT DAY!
We stayed at Bobby's parent's house. The boys would be upstairs sprawled out on their stomach's, their eyes glued to the dual screen, their stylus' primed for action. Ah yes! They, the boys, played the beautiful gleaming white DS' with sheer content. Until............one night Eric's had a glitch. I would say it was about 3 days later, roughly. His game cartridge got jammed in the system. Not telling us or asking for help, he just rips it right out of the game system. Well, that was all she wrote. And for a few more days after that, out of grim-painstaking-FEAR, didn't tell us that it was dead. Matthew fessed up for him. Thank you, Matthew! Yeah, I was pissed. Goodbye $$$$$. Right down the drain. Bobby can't fix it. The prongs, those gleaming, shiny, gold electrical prongs are bent and one possibly broken off. Eeeergh!
So today, after waiting patiently for the holidays to end, I call Nintendo. They can't charge more for the machine, can they? I read up on all the warranty crap. I find out that the most they'll charge is $75...but that is 3/4 of what I paid. So I'm losing it. I don't want to have to buy a new one. So, back to what I was saying....I called Nintendo. I spoke to a very intelligent man named Harold. I'll admit, I sat their wondering if he wore bottle bottom glasses and had a pocket protector. White and nerdy? He was very literate and spoke to me in lay man's terminology. He felt sorry for my plight. A 12 yr. old boy (well, next month he'll be 12) was in dire need of a new DS-lite. Harold walked me through the trouble shooting, he held my hand through the warranty process, he looked into my eyes when he said, "Your warranty will cover your problem." Oh Harold! [sigh] Then he kissed me on the cheek when he told me....."Thank you for calling Nintendo. Call back if you have more questions or problems." No. THANK YOU HAROLD! Then their was a soft "click" as I cradled the phone to my chest. [sigh] Harold, thank you!!
So now, in a few more days, a box with labels will be shipped here. I'll lovingly wrap the broken DS and ship it to Nintendo heaven where they'll breathe life back into the glossy, white DS~lite.

A Soldier's Silent Night
A Soldier's Silent Night
TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE.
I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.
I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE.
NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.
WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND.
FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.
THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.
THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.
WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.
SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.
THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.
I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.
THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY;
THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
"SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;
I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS."
THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP.
I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.
I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT.
THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."
ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."

To B or not to B....
I'm sure Bobby is just thrilled that his wife is about to mention her boobs....but I have to!
You see, I've been a 36C as far back as I can remember. Even in my heaviest of days, years ago, my boob size never changed. Never. Two boys and 100 lbs lighter...still a 36C. So what gives?
Lauren.
She is what gives. My pregnancy alone was way different than the boys. I gained tons of weight with both of them. Lauren...just 10-15 lbs. The boys I tried breastfeeding but just wasn't adult enough or too lazy to give it my all. Lauren...breastfed till she was 13 months old. I was 100 lbs overweight while pregnant with the boys. I was a 100 lbs lighter while I was pregnant with Lauren. I didn't exercise before, during, or after the boys. Lauren....ran up till the day I gave birth and am still running.
Anyway, you get the drift. Now I'm done with all things infant and pregnancy and my boobs are deflated balloons with a bad case of Atlas roadwork. It's frightening. They barely fit in my old bras. So I went to Walmart to try on a few different sizes. Down a cup size. NO! Heck, maybe two cupsizes. NO! Some bras I was a 36B. Some I barely fit into that. A 36A maybe? I guess I could have gone back and grabbed some of those but didn't want to find out! I'll be happy in the B's for now. But I swear if they shrink or deflate anymore......I demand a boob job!!
Or I'll have to go back to the age of 13 and stuff my bras!!

FIRST CHAIR!!!
You Raise Me Up
Sung by: Josh Groban
When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.
There is no life - no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.

Score!!!!
Wednesday, December 6th
Well, most of you have seen my "polka-dot" pictures. If you haven't...scroll down. This is the story of this most fateful day................
I run. I shower. I notice a few dots trailing up from my right hip to the underside of my left breast. I freak out. I thought I had scabies! Ewww! I freak out some more. "How did I get this?" I ask myself. So I spend most of my morning fretting over this.
Later in the morning, I go do my business in the bathroom and decided while I'm in there I'll have another look-see in the mirror of these dots. After flushing the toilet, I go the the mirror in my bathroom and raise my shirt. "What the hell?" I scream to myself. The few dots were now all over my abdomen, both boobs, my chest, my sides......and as I take off my shirt.....notice them on my upper arms. Aaaaaaaagh! What happened. So now I'm frantic. I immediately call the same-day appointment line on post. No appointments. They are all full. Of course they are. I decide to head out to the ER. The dreaded ER. Ugh! Luckily Lauren has already eaten. But I hadn't. Oh well. "I'll eat when I get home." I think to myself.
We get to the ER. It's 11:30am. Not noon yet. As I walk in, every seat is filled and some people were standing up against the walls. Ugh!!!!! It's going to be a long wait. And it was. It took them an hour to just triage me. You know....the nurse assesses you, takes your vitals and determines if you are going to die in the next minute. Well, to make this as short as possible, we were there for 4 hours. At that time, it being 3:30pm, the boys should be home. I call. No answer. Okay. I'll just wait a few more minutes. Them being boys and all were probably taking the long route home. So at 3:35pm, I call no answer. Okay. My heart beating a little faster, I wait a few more minutes more. It's 3:40pm. I call. No freaking answer. I'm getting panicky. "Where are the boys?" Fear is now squeazing my heart. So every minute on the minute I'm calling the home phone. No answer.
Now I'm freaking out. I know I'm about to be called. The people that I knew that were there before me were being called back. I was getting closer. But where were my boys. Something was wrong. Go home or wait to be called. I went home, of course! So on the way home I'm whipping in and out of traffic with my cell phone stuck to my ear. Yeah, I was that person I most despise....an erratic cell phone driver. I think what usually takes 15 minutes to get home took me 5. I get home and there by the porch are their backpacks. So I drive my truck around the street to their friend's house. I knock on the door and there they were. I'm yelling. My heart is pounding. Out of fear, out of anger, out of fear. In that time of yelling, Eric tells me he forgot his key. Eeergh! Of all the days he has to forget his key..........
I go on and on about how he should have called my cell phone to let me know where they were at. I could still be at the ER waiting patiently for my name to be called. (And I just know as soon as I walked out they called it. I just know it.) Eric tells me that he doesn't know my cell phone number. Okay. Mental note: Give Eric my cell phone number.
Then as we walk in the door, Eric proclaims....."Mom, IF I HAD A CELL PHONE, you could have gotten a hold of me and you wouldn't have been worried."
Score, Eric.
Eric 1, Mom 0

Another day in the life............
Ahh! Just blew my nose. It's clear for the next minute or so before I'll have to blow it again. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. Curse the cold virus! My nose is raw and sores are forming from the blowing and the cold, dry air that has now chapped the skin that surrounds the two caves that allow human breathing. My head floats above my shoulders from the use of medication that is supposed to dry up the waterfall of sinus drainage. Instead it leaves me a little light-headed. My throat is red and raw from the constant coughing and clearing of said drainage. Can I just be a cat? They have the life....eat, sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep, poop/pee, eat, sleep, sleep, sleep, and sleep some more. Now that is the life....................
Last night was "scout night" as I have termed it. The night where I wish there were two of me. I drop Matt off at the elementary school, we might hang around awhile to hear the latest news, then Eric, Lauren, and I (plus a few older scouts that I might take with us) leave for Boy Scouts in the next town. We always arrive just when it starts. I drop Eric and the others off. I leave and head back to Matthew's meeting just in time to pick him up and head back to Eric's meeting where we sit for an hour of doing nothing. Okay, I might be chasing Lauren around the DAV and Matthew brings his GameBoy and plays that to whittle away the time. What fun! NOT!
Then it's a rush to get back home, put everyone to bed, and to lie there wishing for death to take me because I have this "bleeping" cold.
On a good note:
Eric has his very first band concert on the 11th. A Chrsitmas concert. He's very excited. They will be playing 4 songs and then the Honor Band will play. If Eric gets better, he can play in the Honor Band next year. I'm looking forward to this.........my baby's in the band.
Must go now. My nose is in need of clearing.....again.

An Old Wound....Refreshed
Lauren strikes again.
Other than my l. shift key, I now have a caps lock and ctrl key gone. Bye-bye! Just ripped them off like a new scab. Oh, I think I can fix these since the pieces are still intact but it will never be the same. Ugh!
My pretty keyboard....not so pretty anymore.
When will I learn to close the case, instead of leaving it open for her prying little fingers? Eeergh!

Just one word.
"Mama."
Lauren said it to me. Not gibberish.
With determination in her eye, she said my name and meant it.
"Mama!" as she hands me a book to read to her for the 100th time.
Then I melted into a puddle of goo...........

Egads!
Has it really been that long since I posted anything here. Oopsies!
Well, I've had a lot of highs and a lot of loooows this week. Yesterday, well, discovered the vinyl siding of our house on one side was blown off the day before. We had sustained winds of 40mph with gusts as high as 60mph! As my Mom said, "A little hurricane came through here." So I have an exposed part of my house which is like an open sore. Anything can get in and "infect" my house, even though I've been reassured it's all in my head. Okay...whatever. It's still an ugly sight to see though.
Matthew had his 3rd grade play last night! It was neat. He was in the choir portion of the whole thing. I wish I had brought the tripod because I was a little preoccupied with Lauren...so there are lots of movement in the pictures. Eric took still photos with the digi camera and still haven't looked at those. I'm afraid to look. LOL! I'll post what I can of those later.
Bobby should be home for Christmas vacation......Dec.18-Jan.2. He was hoping for more time off since he has over 60 days of leave that he has acquired from his tours to Iraq. We are still up in the air on when he will come back for Thanksgiving. From what he tells me, he might have to "work" the Wednesday before the holiday. If so, he will leave after his duty and drive then. Problem: Means he'll get here Thanksgiving morning. I think he wanted to sleep-in...not sleep-through...that day. Hopefully, the command there, will be nice and let him have Wednesday off so he can travel that day. What? Be nice......yeah, right!
You won't believe what I did yesterday afternoon? Really. You won't. I.....spent 2 hours on the floor....legs spread (get your head out of the gutter guys!!!!)....surrounded by........Christmas wrapping paper and ribbon! I wrapped all the gifts, minus layaway, that I had in my closet. I only have 2 people yet to get for......and, of course, they are men! I spent all of Lauren's nap time and got it done! Now I just have to keep the cats off of them (don't want their nails from their hind legs to tear up the hard work I did) and keep Lauren away (she now has hands and fingers that are nimble enough to pull at wrapping paper and tear it to shreds!)
Well, that is all for this week. Next week, well....we'll be up North with family.
NaNa...if you are reading this....the orders are in. Matthew wants lots and lots and lots of mashed potatoes and Eric wants lots and lots and lots of turkey!!! LOL! Oh, they crack me up!

Origin of Halloween
Halloween's origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in).
The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31, they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. In addition to causing trouble and damaging crops, Celts thought that the presence of the otherworldly spirits made it easier for the Druids, or Celtic priests, to make predictions about the future. For a people entirely dependent on the volatile natural world, these prophecies were an important source of comfort and direction during the long, dark winter.
To commemorate the event, Druids built huge sacred bonfires, where the people gathered to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities.
During the celebration, the Celts wore costumes, typically consisting of animal heads and skins, and attempted to tell each other's fortunes. When the celebration was over, they re-lit their hearth fires, which they had extinguished earlier that evening, from the sacred bonfire to help protect them during the coming winter.
By A.D. 43, Romans had conquered the majority of Celtic territory. In the course of the four hundred years that they ruled the Celtic lands, two festivals of Roman origin were combined with the traditional Celtic celebration of Samhain.
The first was Feralia, a day in late October when the Romans traditionally commemorated the passing of the dead. The second was a day to honor Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit and trees. The symbol of Pomona is the apple and the incorporation of this celebration into Samhain probably explains the tradition of "bobbing" for apples that is practiced today on Halloween.
By the 800s, the influence of Christianity had spread into Celtic lands. In the seventh century, Pope Boniface IV designated November 1 All Saints' Day, a time to honor saints and martyrs. It is widely believed today that the pope was attempting to replace the Celtic festival of the dead with a related, but church-sanctioned holiday. The celebration was also called All-hallows or All-hallowmas (from Middle English Alholowmesse meaning All Saints' Day) and the night before it, the night of Samhain, began to be called All-hallows Eve and, eventually, Halloween. Even later, in A.D. 1000, the church would make November 2 All Souls' Day, a day to honor the dead. It was celebrated similarly to Samhain, with big bonfires, parades, and dressing up in costumes as saints, angels, and devils. Together, the three celebrations, the eve of All Saints', All Saints', and All Souls', were called Hallowmas.

History of the Jack-o-Lantern
Pumpkin carving is a popular part of modern America's Halloween celebration. Come October, pumpkins can be found everywhere in the country from doorsteps to dinner tables. Despite the widespread carving that goes on in this country every autumn, few Americans really know why or when the jack o'lantern tradition began. Or, for that matter, whether the pumpkin is a fruit or a vegetable. Read on to find out!
People have been making jack o'lanterns at Halloween for centuries. The practice originated from an Irish myth about a man nicknamed "Stingy Jack." According to the story, Stingy Jack invited the Devil to have a drink with him. True to his name, Stingy Jack didn't want to pay for his drink, so he convinced the Devil to turn himself into a coin that Jack could use to buy their drinks. Once the Devil did so, Jack decided to keep the money and put it into his pocket next to a silver cross, which prevented the Devil from changing back into his original form. Jack eventually freed the Devil, under the condition that he would not bother Jack for one year and that, should Jack die, he would not claim his soul. The next year, Jack again tricked the Devil into climbing into a tree to pick a piece of fruit. While he was up in the tree, Jack carved a sign of the cross into the tree's bark so that the Devil could not come down until the Devil promised Jack not to bother him for ten more years.
Soon after, Jack died. As the legend goes, God would not allow such an unsavory figure into heaven. The Devil, upset by the trick Jack had played on him and keeping his word not to claim his soul, would not allow Jack into hell. He sent Jack off into the dark night with only a burning coal to light his way. Jack put the coal into a carved-out turnip and has been roaming the Earth with ever since. The Irish began to refer to this ghostly figure as "Jack of the Lantern," and then, simply "Jack O'Lantern."
In Ireland and Scotland, people began to make their own versions of Jack's lanterns by carving scary faces into turnips or potatoes and placing them into windows or near doors to frighten away Stingy Jack and other wandering evil spirits. In England, large beets are used. Immigrants from these countries brought the jack o'lantern tradition with them when they came to the United States. They soon found that pumpkins, a fruit native to America, make perfect jack o'lanterns.
